The IMG Academy Mustangs, based in Draper, Florida, are coming off a highly successful 2023 season where they captured the Florida 6A State Championship, finishing with a 13-1 record. Their only loss came early in the season against national powerhouse Bishop Gorman. Known for their explosive offense, the Chargers averaged 47.6 points per game last year and have consistently been a top contender in Florida high school football.
As the 2024 season kicks off, IMG Academy is once again ranked as the preseason No. 1 team in the state. They are set to face the No. 5 Bergen Catholic Cavemen in a highly anticipated matchup on August 29, 2024. The Chargers' new quarterback, Helaman Casuga, is expected to continue their tradition of strong quarterback play under coach Eric Kjar
The Bergen Catholic Bears had an impressive 2023 high school football season, finishing with an 11-2 record and clinching the Region 3 championship. Their season included dominant playoff performances, such as a 42-14 victory over Bingham, which secured their place in the state semifinals.
However, their season ended in disappointment as they fell to Skyridge in the state semifinal, losing 34-12. The Cavemen struggled without their two-way star, Davis Andrews, who was out with a broken collarbone. Despite a strong effort, they couldn't overcome Skyridge's offensive prowess.
